Trout Fishing Basics for Beginners in Minnesota
With a BA in economics from the University of Minnesota, Daniel Reardon serves as a co-CEO of the Otto Bremer Trust and member of the Board of Directors of the Bremer Financial Corporation, a financial services entity owned by Bremer employees and the Otto Bremer Trust. In his spare time, Daniel Reardon enjoys fishing.
For a trout fishing beginner, some basic tactics can yield a more successful fishing trip. There is no need for expensive tackle, boat and motor, pH meter, or depth locator. A spin-casting outfit, night crawlers, boots, and a box of hooks are sufficient for trout fishing in Minnesota.
Three species of trout can be found in the southeast Minnesota trout streams, including rainbow, brown, and brook trout. Nightcrawlers are the most efficient type of bait for trout. After hooking half of your nightcrawler on either end, approach the water quietly and cast upstream, allowing the nightcrawler to drift back downstream naturally. If the water is somehow disturbed, move on to another pool of water.
